South Asian Women’s Collective

Building a connected network across Canada, where South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals can thrive, lead, and shape equitable futures.

About SAWC

Our vision is to build a network that supports the social and economic well-being of South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals across Canada through research, programming and events.

The creation of the Collective was initially inspired to curate spaces for connection and learning among South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals across the diaspora. Since then, the Collective has grown, and is actively collaborating and engaging with diverse South Asian communities and allies to co-create programming, events, and lead community action research. The evolution of our Collective maintains commitment to our core goal: to support and respond to the emerging needs impacting South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals

Acknowledging our Relations with the Land

The land in Ontario is covered by 46 treaties and other agreements, including the One Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, and these agreements were made to peaceably share and care for the land and its resources. Other Indigenous Nations, Europeans, and newcomers, were invited into this covenant in the spirit of respect, peace, and friendship.

Our South Asian ancestors were colonized and recolonized over centuries, and as settlers on Turtle Island, we acknowledge and continue to seek permission to co-exist on these lands, and share its resources.
