SAWC Programming

SAWC offers a variety of programming supporting the social and economic well-being of South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals.

For 2024-2025, our core focus areas include: 

  1. Employment Research Project: Launching a research report and a series of events across the GTA on the workforce landscape for young racialized women in 2025.

  2. Flourish (details below): piloting a career development program for young South Asian women and gender-diverse people in Markham and York Region.

  3. Thrive Conference: Hosting the largest South Asian Women's Health Conference in collaboration with Laadliyan, Celebrating & Empowering Daughters and Cazador Events in May 2025.

  4. Community Funding: Launching the Didi Creative Fund again in partnership with Tamil Women Rising (TWR) and Didihood.

About Flourish

Flourish is a unique career development program that offers young South Asian women and gender-diverse individuals, ages 16-30, living and/or working in York Region a supportive space to work on their career goals and grow their community. Whether they are looking for a job, or need career guidance on what paths to pursue, we want to help young South Asian women flourish in their careers! 

The Flourish Career Development Program offers: 

  • Culturally relevant career development workshops 

  • Tailored career coaching and guidance 

  • Supportive relationships with South Asian mentors and community members 

  • Access to curated career resources, tools, and events  

  • Opportunities to connect with employers and community partners

This hybrid program will be launching in Markham on January 18th, 2025!
